Scott W. DeVries

March 14, 1967 - Jan. 6, 2023

Scott Warren DeVries was born to Robert DeVries and Ann Mastin Atkins March 14, 1967, in Mora. He was raised on a farm near Ogilvie now known as the Ponto Farm.

At the age of 5, they moved to the state of Arizona. In his teens, he babysat his nieces. When he got older his career changed to landscaping and continued to work until he was about 23, and moved to Minnesota. He got a job as a mechanic at Fisher Ford in Mora.

Six months later, he met Gina Gossen and her 2-year-old daughter, Tiffany. Three years later they were married Feb. 2, 1993. He took Tiffany in and cared for her, loved her like she was his own. He stepped up to be a father he didn’t have to be.

He loved hunting, fishing, his family and friends. He cared about people and had done whatever he could to help them. His social circle included his love for animals.

Scott is survived by his wife; Gina DeVries; three children, Tiffany Gossen, Josette (Jesse) Hedlund of Foley and son Robert Francis DeVries of Princeton; his mother, Ann Atkins; Laura Simpson, George ‘Wendall’ Simpson, Jim DeVries, Peggy Simpson, Les ‘Gump’ (Janice) DeVries, Doug Simpson, Polly (Chuck) Randall and Rhonda DeVries.

Scott was preceded in death by his two children, Jessie and Nicole; his father, Robert ‘Bob’ DeVries; both grandparents, Bing and Marydel Lavisa Luloff; nephew, Michael Simpson; best friend, Gilbert Bilducea; and an elderly man, Ona Cochran whom he took care of in Green River, Wyoming, and many other family and friends.

He is surrounded by the Lord, his eternal family and friends. Scott is and will always be loved and missed every day by everyone who knew him, until we can all be together again.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Eternity Church in Princeton. The Rev. Phil Larson will be the  clergy officiating.

The Fisherman’s Prayer
God grant that I may live to fish until my dying day,
and when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray.
When in the Lord’s safe landing net
I am peacefully asleep,
that in His mercy I be judged
as big enough to keep.
