Funeral services for Lucille Swanson, age 88, of Milaca, who died Jan. 10, 2024, were Saturday, Jan. 13, at Milaca Alliance Church. Arrangements by Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
Lucille Jane Swanson was born March 22, 1935, to Harry and Mabel Swanson. She lived her early years between Milaca and Princeton. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1953. She married Maynard Swanson, the love of her life, in 1954. He was taken away to heaven after 50-plus years of marriage. Every day after, she missed him terribly. To this marriage they were blessed with seven children, Richard, Laurie, Robert, Rodney, Russell, Lynnelle and Lisa.
Lucille was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved gardening and cooking. Maynard and she liked taking their children on many great vacations, including annual weeklong trips to Mission Lake. She loved people and people loved her. She shared that love by caring for the elderly at Foley Nursing Center for 30 years. She enjoyed her retirement by spending time with family and friends, knitting and reading her Bible. She will be remembered by anyone asking how she was doing, and she would answer by saying, “fat and sassy.”
She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Mabel; husband Maynard; sister Helen Ulstad; infant brother; and great-granddaughter, Emberly Campeau.
Lucille is survived by her children, Richard (Jenine) Swanson, Laurie (Chuck) Gahm, Robert (Lynn) Swanson, Rodney (Bridget) Swanson, Russell (Kelly) Swanson, Lynnelle (Mathew) Campeau, and Lisa (Rob) Jacobson; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Cheryl (Lee) Steinbrecher, brother, Melvin Swanson; brother-in-law, Gil Ulstad; and many more family and friends.
