Judy D. Miller (Michaelson) Monahan

Judy Deanna Miller (Michaelson) Monahan, of Kansas City, Missouri, previously of Morrill, passed away peacefully May 10, 2024, at the age of 84, surrounded by her children. 

Judy was born in St. Cloud April 14, 1940, to Constance Scott and Archie Miller. She was raised by her grandparents Amy and Curtiss Carver.

She attended St. Cloud Tech High School.

Judy was an adventurous mom of eight children and a mother to many foster children. She was a devoted grandmother to 26 and had 55 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Judy was best known for raising her own food to her amazing cooking and her ability to build or fix anything. Her children will best remember the “Michaelson Itchy Feet” When Judy woke her children in the middle of the night and said that, it meant grab your shoes, we are off.  They never knew where they were going or how long they would be gone. Her children had many adventures with her. 

Mostly she was a child of God and raised her children with Christian values. She was a devoted Sister of the LDS Mormon Church. In her later years, she volunteered at the Temple in Kansas City, Missouri, and had missionaries in her home for meals. It was well-known that Sister Monahan had the best pies.

She had a gift for music. She sang in the church choir. She played the organ and the guitar. Her children will cherish all the music and singing she sang with them. Saturday night gatherings singing songs from “The Sound of Music” and Sunday mornings sing “Singing in the Kitchen” accompanied by her children playing the pots and pans with her homemade wooden spoons.

She is survived by her husband David Monahan and her eight children: Tina Strait of Eden Prairie; Michael (Rebecca) Michaelson of Longville; Katherine (Jon) Johnson of Owatonna; Curtiss (Cathy) Michaelson of Mondovi, Wisconsin; Georgia (Glenn) Holewa of Foley; Sally (Scott) Kloss of Buckman; Ky Michaelson of Faribault; and Angela Coggin of Kansas City, Missouri. Her sisters Maureen (Terry) Anderson and Nan Scott; and aunt Dorthy.

She was preceded in death by her parents Connie Scott and Archie Miller. Grandparents Amy and Curtiss Carver. Her aunt Jean Ohmann, Her son-in-laws Earl Strait and Timothy Fleck and grandson David Michaelson.

A service for Judy will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at The Church of Latter-day Saints, 1420 29th Ave. N., St. Cloud. Luncheon to follow. A burial service will follow the luncheon at North Star Cemetery, 1901 Cooper Ave. S., St. Cloud.

Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers.
